Next Step: Force Public Hearings
By Ned Holstein, MD, MS Founder, Chair of the Board and Acting Executive Director

We have been informed by the federal Office of Child Support Enforcement that they have been inundated with far more comments on child support guidelines than they ever expected. This is evidence that as a movement, we are stepping up the pressure more than ever, making our voices heard more broadly and more effectively. Each of you who took the trouble to submit our child-support comments deserves a pat on the back. There is power in numbers, and when we pull together with unity, we can move mountains.

Remember that our latest push is to force the OCSE to hold public hearings on child support guidelines in each of the federal regions around the country. This will be your chance to tell them directly what you think of the guidelines.

If you have not already done so, please copy and paste the following brief message and send it to: [email protected]

Copy The Following

Dear Ms. Addison:

Please convey the following request to the Commissioner and to the Director, Policy Division: I request that the OCSE hold public hearings on its proposed rulemaking in each of the federal regions with adequate notice to the public. If you have any questions concerning this request, please contact Ned Holstein, Acting Executive Director, National Parents Organization at [email protected]

Sincerely,

The Three Victims of Paternity Fraud
By Donald C. Hubin, Ph.D. NPO National Board Member

Don Hubin

A few years ago I read about a hospital whose staff mixed up the name tags on two newborns in the nursery. As a result, a mother went home with the wrong infant. The mistake was discovered within a few hours, the mothers notified, and the infants switched back to their correct mothers immediately. Nevertheless, the hospital quickly offered a settlement of $50,000 for its brief mistake. Clearly, it believed that a jury of ordinary people would punish the hospital for at least that amount of money if the mother sued.

Compare that to the cavalier indifference of our society about correctly identifying the true biological father of a child. It can safely be said that dozens of babies go home every day with the wrong father. Murray Davis of the National Family Justice Association did a study a few years back that looked at how many of the men who are declared fathers by default in Wayne County, Michigan are indeed the father. He says DNA tests found 79% of the time they are not.

Michigan to Jail Carnell Alexander for Child Support for Child Who’s not His
January 26, 2015 by Robert Franklin, Esq, Member, National Board of Directors, National Parents Organization
Meanwhile, Carnell Alexander looks like he’s headed to jail (ABC2News, 1/23/15). He’s the Detroit man I’ve written about before who’s been ordered by a judge to pay about $30,000 in back child support for a child everyone agrees isn’t his. Read more...

Michigan Dad Learns of Son After 61 Years
January 26, 2015 by Robert Franklin, Esq, Member, National Board of Directors, National Parents Organization
Today, a couple of cases of paternity fraud. They’re very different, but both cry out for justice. The first is here (Inquisitr, 1/21/15).

It’s the story of Anthony Trapani, a Grand Rapids, Michigan man, who’s now 81 years old. Way back in 1954, he and a woman named Shirley Childress had a brief affair that to this day he refers to as “dating.” The two went their separate ways, but in 1959, Childress wrote Trapani a letter. Meitiv Saga Provokes Important National Conversation
January 25, 2015 by Robert Franklin, Esq, Member, National Board of Directors, National Parents Organization
The continuing saga of Alexander and Danielle Meitiv and their children is proving very therapeutic to the body politic generally. Doubtless the Meitiv family would prefer to have not been chosen to be our collective medicine, but fate works in funny ways. Read about it here (Washington Post, 1/17/15). Read more...

Neil Lyndon Stumbles When Dealing with Parental Alienation
January 23, 2015 by Robert Franklin, Esq, Member, National Board of Directors, National Parents Organization
Here’s another fine piece by Neil Lyndon writing in The Telegraph (The Telegraph, 1/20/15). As usual, he educates his readers on important points of family law, and family court practices. But at the same time, he misses the boat in several important ways, and that’s sad to see from such a normally astute observer of sexual politics as they play out in divorce cases. He can do better; he usually does. Read more...

Washington State Considers Bill to Allow DNA Testing for Paternity at any Time
January 22, 2015 by Robert Franklin, Esq, Member, National Board of Directors, National Parents Organization
It looks like the State of Washington may be trying to catch up to much of the rest of the country, at least when it comes to identifying the actual fathers of children. A state senator has introduced a bill that would allow men to demand DNA testing in paternity cases. Read about it here (Spokesman-Review, 1/20/15). Read more...

“I have seen three generations of disregard for the actual mental well-being of children by the state and selfish parents and hope that I can help make a difference for those out there that are forced to go through it.”
