Abuse of Power by CPS in Ohio?
March 23, 2015 by Robert Franklin, Esq, Member, National Board of Directors, National Parents Organization
The issue of abuse of power by child protection agencies is once more front and center in this case (The Courier, 3/20/15). Some of the background facts of the case aren’t clear, but the upshot of it is. What no one disputes is that Findlay, Ohio mother Teresa Smith’s child was taken from her by local child protective authorities. The child now lives with his father. Read more...

Equal Parenting Movement Growing in Spain
March 23, 2015 by Robert Franklin, Esq, Member, National Board of Directors, National Parents Organization
The movement for equal parenting is growing in Spain as this article indicates (Euro Weekly News, 3/20/15). On the Spanish Fathers’ Day, March 19th, a huge rally was held in Madrid. Those in attendance were from all across the country and the rally was the combined work of multiple organizations throughout Spain. There, as elsewhere around the world, men and women alike called for courts to put aside their single-parent biases and act for the good of children. Read more...

Currently in Florida, as in other states, there’s a move afoot to make alimony laws more reasonable. In part that means doing away with permanent alimony. I’ve written about alimony before, but mostly in a rather abstract vein. My take is that, in an era in which men and women can both support themselves, it’s not sensible to require one adult to support another adult who otherwise wants nothing to do with him/her. My objection is, with exceptions, to the very existence of alimony. Read more...

March 20, 2015 by Robert Franklin, Esq, Member, National Board of Directors, National Parents Organization
It seems the mother, Brandy Buchanon wanted the father, Kyle Rainer out of their 6-year-old‘s life. So she filed various allegations of domestic abuse that the trial court, after first issuing a temporary restraining order against Rainer, eventually found to be less than credible. But just as the judge was about to downgrade the restraining order, Buchanan introduced into evidence images from Rainer‘s Facebook page. Read more...

AEI’s Robert Doar Wrong to Oppose Proposed Changes to Child Support Enforcement
March 19, 2015 by Robert Franklin, Esq, Member, National Board of Directors, National Parents Organization
The American Enterprise Institute’s Robert Doar’s article here attacking proposed changes to child support enforcement regulations is both misguided and at times misinformed (Wall Street Journal, 3/9/15). As the former director of child support enforcement for the State of New York, he should know better. Read more...
