CA. Prop. 4 Proponents Use Anti-Male Stereotypes to Sell Their Ballot Initiative
[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQNX4I5Mu0I&eurl=http://www.yeson4.net/] Los Angeles, CA--I've often made the point that conservatives/Christians are often every bit as anti-male as feminists are, and are equally unscrupulous in using the specter of the "bad male" to push their agenda. The proponents of Proposition 4--the California Waiting Period and Parental Notification Before Termination of Minor's Pregnancy Ballot Initiative--are another example. Their website says "On a daily basis, older men exploit young girls and use secret abortions to cover up their crimes," and they provide the lovely ad above. I have mixed emotions both about abortion and Parental Notification laws, but this ad is bigotry, pure and simple. These tactics remind me of the outrageous bill I criticized in my co-authored column Coercive Abortion Prevention Act Assumes Male Guilt, Opens Door to Unfair Prosecutions (Detroit News, 11/30/06).
