The Task Force to Study Legal Disputes Involving the Care and Custody of Minor Children is holding seven meetings in October, November, and December. All are open to the public for observation.
The meetings are held from 10 am to Noon, October 24th and 31st; November 7th and 26th; and December 10th, 12th, and 19th. All meetings are held at the Legislative Office Building, Connecticut State Capitol, 300 Capitol Avenue, Hartford, CT. Check the meeting room schedule at the security reception desk within the legislative office building as you enter in order to learn what room the Task Force will be using.
Upon public notice, the task force may take testimony through a public hearing. No public hearing has been scheduled at this time but the public is invited to attend and witness the task force at work.
HB 6685 established the Task Force and its purpose.
“(a) There is established a task force to study (1) the role of a guardian ad litem and the attorney for a minor child in any action involving parenting responsibilities and the custody and care of a child, (2) the extent of noncompliance with the provisions of subdivision (6) of subsection (c) of section 46b-56 of the general statutes and the role of the court in enforcing compliance with said subdivision, and (3) whether the state should adopt a presumption that shared custody is in the best interest of a minor child in any action involving the custody, care and upbringing of a child. “
